Land Monitoring and Profiting from Good Land Stewardship: Part 1

Zoom

29 September 2022

3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

With all of the conversation surrounding land monitoring, there’s very little practical guidance around what it means for ranchers and what specifically is being measured. Yet many producers are interested in doing some type of monitoring on their properties. That’s why we’re launching this 2-part webinar series.

In part one, we’re teaming up with Noble Research Institute, Audubon’s Conservation Ranching Initiative, and Blue Nest Beef to explore the challenges and opportunities around measuring ecological outcomes on cattle operations. We’ll also discuss the latest monitoring opportunities around greenhouse gasses, soil carbon, and biodiversity, as well as marketing of sustainable products based on ecological monitoring.

What questions will be covered:

  • What types of environmental outcomes are sustainable grazing programs investigating?
  • How do they take measurements in the field?
  • What kinds of outcomes are they expecting to see?
  • How do these programs apply to “normal” ranchers?
  • Can I do this kind of thing on my property, and if so, what’s the first step?

Speakers:

  • Russ Conser, Chief Executive and Impact Officer, Blue Nest Beef
  • Dr. Nicole Michel, Director, Quantitative Science, National Audubon Society
  • Dr. Isabella Maciel, Systems Researcher, Noble Research Institute
  • Moderator: Dr. Nic Buckley Biggs, Director of Sustainability, AgriWebb

*The time of this webinar is 3:00 p.m. MST.
