Ducks Unlimited and AgriWebb partner to enhance grassland conservation through data-backed grazing management

AgriWebb and Ducks Unlimited Partnership

Denver, CO — Ducks Unlimited (DU), the leader in wetlands and waterfowl conservation, and AgriWebb, the world’s most connected livestock management platform, today announced a strategic partnership to support livestock producers with their herd and land management to collectively improve the profitability and conservation benefits of ranching. Supported by a grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF), the initiative provides livestock producers with the digital tools and infrastructure needed to manage their land and livestock more effectively – now and across future generations.

The partnership bridges two distinct but deeply aligned missions. While DU focuses on protecting, restoring, and managing habitats to ensure thriving waterfowl and other wildlife populations, AgriWebb is dedicated to equipping livestock producers with the data and insights needed to run more productive and profitable operations. The common thread is working grasslands stewarded by ranchers, and together, these organizations are proving that the goals of environmental conservation and agricultural efficiency are not only compatible but interdependent.

A shared stewardship of the land

Focusing initially on State Trust lands in North Dakota and South Dakota, the program addresses the specific challenges of grazing on public lands, where short-term leases and restrictions on permanent fencing often hinder management. By integrating AgriWebb’s livestock management software with temporary and virtual fencing, producers can implement intensive grazing practices that improve soil health and create the robust nesting cover required by nesting waterfowl.

“Keeping grasslands intact is essential to the long-term sustainability of waterfowl and other wildlife,” notes Billy Gascoigne, DU’s Senior Director on Agriculture & Strategic Partnerships.  “Ranchers are the primary stewards of these landscapes, and it’s imperative that we develop solutions that help them implement adaptive, profitable grazing practices while ensuring the next generation can continue this important work.”

Precision management for conservation results

Through the NFWF grant, producers will have access to AgriWebb’s holistic livestock management software alongside other temporary and virtual fencing technology. By bringing together an operation’s livestock, grazing and team management data into a single digital platform, producers are better equipped to run strategic grazing plans that improve soil health and grass density without the need for permanent fencing.

“Producers wear many hats, but none are more critical than feeding the world while stewarding the land,” said Campbell Mauchan, Vice President of Partnerships at AgriWebb. “By combining DU’s conservation expertise with AgriWebb’s ability to turn simple data collection into actionable insights, we are helping ranchers nurture the ecosystems we all rely on. When a rancher is equipped to not just record their data, but use it, they are able to make decisions that help them nurture the ecosystems that support their legacies.”

Program goals and impact

The partnership focuses on cow-calf and stocker operations, providing a streamlined way to report livestock numbers and managed acreage to NFWF. By capturing this “storytelling of data,” the partnership aims to:

  • Enhance grassland health: Promoting vibrant nesting cover for waterfowl through ample rest and rotation.
  • Empower producers: Providing the “productivity-driving” insights needed to manage herds more effectively on complex public lands.
  • Strengthen the food chain: Ensuring long-term land fertility to support a growing global population.

While the initial rollout focuses on the Dakotas’ state trust lands, both DU and AgriWebb view this as a scalable model for how technology and conservation can work hand-in-hand across North America to support a planet that is fertile and a population that is fed.
