Transforming passion into profit at Bayrook Pastoral

Amy Rogers is a fourth-generation beef and sheep producer running Bayrook Pastoral alongside her partner Alfred and her mother. Together they manage 980 hectares in Gippsland’s high country, 400 calving cows and 1,000 first-cross ewes.

For years, the farm was run on decades of experience and intuition, with records kept across a few different pocket notebooks. But when it came to tracking the fine details across multiple mobs, the paper trail became a source of friction. “We looked at it as more of a lifestyle back then” Amy recalls. “But now we’re really looking at it as a business, and it needs to be profitable.”

The turning point came in May 2024 at Beef Australia in Rockhampton, when Amy and Alfred stopped by the AgriWebb tent. Then, in 2025, they paired the software with business coaching from the Farm Owners Academy (FOA). By pulling their operational data into one central place, the family was able to move away from guesswork, and gained total visibility over their operation.

Unlocking on-farm visibility

Running a multi-enterprise operation meant that farm administration historically took up a massive amount of time. End-of-financial-year reporting for the accountant required Amy to spend a full day in the office digging through paperwork. Day-to-day inventory presented a similar hurdle; with the nearest rural supply store located an hour and a half away, Amy found it difficult to verify exactly what was left in the chemical shed while out working in the paddock, occasionally leading to over-purchasing.

Once Amy dedicated a few hours to mapping the property and entering her baseline inventory, AgriWebb became a live dashboard in her pocket. Moving past the paperwork completely changed her administrative routine, turning that full day of end-of-financial-year reporting into a simple, ten-second livestock reconciliation for the accountant.

Now, when standing in the aisle at the rural store, she checks the app to verify her stock levels back home against upcoming mob treatments, purchasing exactly what she needs.

“I can just whip out my phone while I’m standing in Elders and say, ‘Oh, okay, I don’t have enough 5-in-1 to mark those calves next week.’ I can look at the mob and go, ‘This is how many I’ve got, this is how much I need.’ So I’m not buying more than I need, I’m not wasting product.”

Even livestock losses are managed with a higher level of precision. Amy logs every mortality with its exact cause, separating lambing difficulties from wild dog attacks. At the end of the year, she uses these records to spot concrete production trends, giving the team the insights they need to build a proactive strategy to reduce those profit leakages next season.

“She was pretty much like, ‘Oh, so you’ve got AgriWebb. That’s great.’ It was just tick, tick, tick.”

The confidence of compliance.

The real test came when a targeted, highly thorough LPA audit arrived at Bayrook Pastoral. Amy had spent time making sure everything in AgriWebb was accurate and up to date. When the auditor asked for treatment logs and chemical batch numbers, Amy opened her laptop.

“She was pretty much like, ‘Oh, so you’ve got AgriWebb. That’s great.’ It was just tick, tick, tick.” The auditor changed her tone. The rest of the audit was straightforward.

“If I hadn’t had AgriWebb, I would have spent days getting records together, pretty much making stuff up. The stress and the time it saved me paid for the year’s subscription then and there.”

Moving from busyness to real business

At Bayrook Pastoral, AgriWebb and Farm Owners Academy work together. The data Amy captures on farm directly powers the benchmarking and planning reviews she runs each month with her financial consultant.

During monthly meetings, Amy runs through the AgriWebb sales screen, weights, mob performance, cost of production. What used to take a day of reconciling notebooks now takes minutes. When Amy logs something in the yards, Alfred sees it on his device. No miscommunication. No double-handling.

“Before EOFY you’d have to spend at least a whole day or two reconciling. Now we have all of that at the press of a button. He can ring me at any time and say, ‘Right, what are the numbers?’ knowing it’s accurate data going in.”

That time adds up. Instead of going through notebooks, Amy is doing the strategic work, the planning, the benchmarking, the decisions that move the business forward.
